           PacBio de novo assembly typically yields completely closed genomes (chromosome in one contig and plasmids in one contig per plasmid).

           In this scenario of high quality assemblies richer and more complete gene annotations are feasible.

These types of analyses of the microbiome can be applied for analyzing the composition of foods, plants rhizosphere (mycorrhizas to improve crops), detection of plant or animal pathogens, characterization of plants and animals. In the production of foods that includes fermentations (cheese, wine, beer, bread) the microbiome analysis can help in the optimization of the production efficiency. Other applications of NGS in agrifood are based on genotyping for selection of the best cultivars in crop sciences.

 

Environmental sciences and biofuels

For environmental sector we can provide you services for analyzing microbiomes with shotgun approaches or targeted analysis (16S, 18S, ITS) for taxonomic and functional profiling to study pollution induced changes, seasonal changes, plague defense, water analysis, waste water treatment plants or soil composition.

For biofuels sector we provide studies of microbiomes to search specific enzymatic activities or sequencing and characterization of fungal or bacterial genomes involved in the production of biofuels.
